Slow going

So this has been our experience so far with having the house on the market....note the lack of a SOLD sticker, or even UNDER CONTRACT. We were thinking it would go quickly based on what the listing agent (a fantastic, God-loving, Sister-in-Christ we knew from when Tom was pastoring at Community Church) told us and the market right now.

We had a call for a showing the morning after it went on the market, which was encouraging, and the couple loved it but not the neighborhood so much. That is tough to hear because we know how blessed we have been to live in this neighborhood for 15 years. Yes, it is a mix of VERY old and new, some not in such good shape, but the people are fantastic.  It is what I will miss the most.  Standing in the street talking to my neighbors in the spring and summer while a motley crew of kids rides/runs/scooters/crawls around us all. Community appreciation day at the church with free food, bonfires, sweets, bounce houses, car shows, music, etc.  Sharing backyard garden bounty with each other.  Trunk-or-treat with all the games and 'smores and laughs. Tom and our neighbor Joseph vying to see who would get home first on Monday and serve the other by bringing the trash and recycling cans around to the back.  Barry riding his mower across to John's house to cut his grass for him when he was sick and weak. People matter, and we have the best people here.  We wish we could share those experiences with prospective buyers.

Anyway, the second showing was almost two weeks after the first (the afternoon before a scheduled Open House). Again, they loved the house but thought there was too much noise from the highway.  The highway that is three blocks away and can't be heard from inside the house unless the wind blows right on the summer solstice.

The Open House was scheduled for the Sat and Sun of spring break.  Perhaps not the best time to hold it, but whatever. Exactly 0 people came.  Talk about deflating.  God is testing our faith, for sure.  I am steadfast that He has the perfect buyer for our little house and He knows what He is doing even when we can't see it.  I won't say it isn't hard to not get anxious. I worry about what happens in May when we don't have a paycheck until the end of the month and the mortgage is due on the 1st. But God has never yet let us down and He doesn't intend to now. His timing is perfect. We just have to learn to wait and trust Him. That's what I'm working on right now. So that's where we are.
